I'd just like to note that to date, 13 genes have been found to cause LCA, which now may account for about 75% of cases. Among them is CEP290, the most common LCA gene (20 to 25% of cases). CEP290 has also been found to cause Joubert Syndrome. Human clinical trials for LCA caused by RPE65 are currently underway in 3 locations, both in England and in the USA.
